The usual advice when choosing a funeral director is to start by finding out whether family or friends have any recommendations based on recent experience. Then check that any companies you are considering are members of one of the following trade associations:

These operate codes of practice and have arbitration schemes for resolving any grievances. It is also a good idea to check that the individual funeral director is professionally qualified and holds the diploma in funeral directing (Dip.Fd.)
Finally, don’t forget to obtain quotations from your shortlisted funeral directors, preferably in writing, and make sure that the charges are broken down. While good funeral directors will be very helpful in advising on the various funeral options available, feel free to ask if you have any particular requests; they will usually be able to accommodate your wishes. Similarly, don’t feel obliged to accept all the options offered to you.
